Dr. Meera Alkaabi

Dr Meera Alkaabi is a distinguished linguistics scholar and an academic leader with extensive experience in higher education. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from UAE University, as well as an MA and PhD in Linguistics from New York University, NYC, USA. Her research interests include neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics, the Emirati dialect, language disorders, Arabic morphology, and Semitic languages.
Dr Meera has held significant roles in academia, including acting VP of the Academic Affairs Sector and Advisor in the Director General Office at ECA Abu Dhabi, UAE. She has also served as Chair of the Linguistics Department and an Associate Professor at UAE University, where she managed interdisciplinary programs and established various research laboratories.
Her work at the National Academy for Childhood Development (NACD) involved managing academic affairs, training and professional development, and student affairs, as well as overseeing curriculum development and lecturer recruitment. Dr Meera has also been a visiting scholar and affiliate at NYUAD Research Institute, collaborating on projects related to Emirati speech perception and Arabic-language brain mapping.
Dr Meera’s dedication to education and her comprehensive expertise in linguistics and academic administration make her a valuable addition to the Khalifa International Award for Early Learning.
