His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa  Award for Education, affirmed that education in our country has a special place, as it is at the forefront of our national priorities, and receives comprehensive care and great attention from His Highness. With the exceptional guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, our country succeeded in providing an educational model characterized by excellence, leadership, and quality of outcomes. The UAE paid special attention to early education, enacted laws and legislations, and motivated workers in the sector. Accordingly, We launched the “Khalifa International Award for Early Learning Field” to inspire all the education professionals.

This came during the televised speech delivered by His Highness today at the ceremony held by the Khalifa Award for Education to honour the winners of its 17th session. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the opening of the Third International Conference of the Khalifa Award for Education, which is held under the title “Education as a Pathway from Empowerment to the Future.”

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed congratulated the winners of this year’s awards, thanking and appreciating the members of the Award’s Board of Trustees, the members of its executive committee, the screening and awarding committees, the coordinators, those working in the educational field inside and outside the country, all the strategic partners, the entities cooperating with the award, and the various entities of the society.

The events at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental Hotel were attended by His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Office of Development and Martyrs Families Affairs at the Presidential Court, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Award for Education, and His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, His Excellency Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Advisor to the President of the UAE, His Excellency Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, and His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad Al-Asmi, Director-General of the Arab Education Bureau for the Gulf States in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Dr. Mohieddin Tawq, Chairman of the National Council for Curriculum Development in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and a number of academic and educational leaders from inside and outside the country.

 

Awarding the winners

 

The activities were launched in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Office of Development and Martyrs Families Affairs at the Presidential Court, and His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Award for Education, where they honoured the winners of the Award at its 17th session.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan presented the shield of the Khalifa Award for Education Distinguished Educational Personality, which was awarded to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” to His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Office of Development and Martyrs Families Affairs at the Presidential Court. The esteemed award was received on behalf of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation “Mother of the Emirates”, winner of the Educational Personality in recognition of her efforts in advancing the education process, advancing the educational process and supporting excellence in education locally and globally.

His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan also honoured the winners, numbering 41 men and women from the UAE, the Arab region and the world, including 26 winners from UAE, and 11 from the Arab world. There were 4 winners in the field of the Khalifa International Award for Early Learning, and the Distinguished Emirati Family category was granted to 3 distinguished Emirati families who made outstanding contributions in supporting the education process.

(Sheikha Nabil Hamad Al-Hamad, majoring in accounting, from the Ministry of Education – Kingdom of Bahrain, Safaa Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Ghuwairi, is a classroom teacher from the Ministry of Education in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Honorary Saif Khalfan Al-Shaibaniyah Chemistry major from the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman, Muhammad Ali Hussein Al-Mesiri specializes in digital skills from the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mahmoud Ibrahim Ibrahim Saad, specializing in Arabic language and Islamic studies from the Ministry of Education in the State of Qatar, Widad Farhat Muhammad Boudriqa, majoring in mathematics from the Ministry of Education in the Republic of Tunisian).

The scope of the Khalifa International Award for Early Learning – Best Programs, Curricula, and Teaching Methodologies and Practices category:

At the end of the ceremony, a group photo was taken of His Excellency with the winners and members of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Award for Education. His Excellency also honoured the participants in the conference, including session directors and speakers, and Amal Al-Afifi, Secretary General of the Khalifa Award for Education, presented the award shield in appreciation to His Excellency.

 

Conference’s first day’s activities

 

The third International Conference of the Khalifa Award for Education was launched, which aims to review leading international experiences in the field of early education at the global level and exchange ideas. The Conference aims to enhance the role of the education, formulate innovative educational policies, and contribute to Developing the quality of education. The Conference will also highlight the future of jobs and the labor market to establish appropriate educational priorities and integrated strategies and policies for education.

Amal Al-Afeefi, Secretary General of the Khalifa Award for Education , stressed the Award’s appreciation to His Highness, the patron of the ceremony, for honouring the winners in its 17th session, as well as the opening of the conference.  The conference comes as a vital addition to the role of the award, which enjoys generous patronage from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The conference also keeps pace with excellence in research and practice supporting the education sector.

She explained that the first day of the conference showcased the participation of experts and specialists in the education sector from various parts of the world. The  agenda included a main session entitled “Education: Results and Achievements – The Empowerment Stage,” moderated by Dr. Khaled Al-Abri, Director of Personnel Management at the Emirates Schools Establishment. It included His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the State and Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University, and His Excellency Mohammed bin Juma, Minister of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The session discussed a number of topics related to the development of the national education system in the United Arab Emirates.

 

Sustainable education

 

His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh stressed that the UAE has achieved great leaps in recent years in the field of basic and higher education, in line with the national vision of the wise leadership of the UAE. A vision to create a generation that is aware of the challenges of life and keeps pace with its developments to strengthen their ability to build a knowledge-based economy.

His Excellency said: “Higher education institutions in the country are working to bridge the gap between educational outcomes and the labor market within strategic visions and plans that keep pace with rapid changes. Education institutions also require joint cooperation to ensure continuous and periodic alignment with the needs of the labor market and reflecting them in the student’s curricula and study plans.”

His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh concluded: “Higher education institutions play an important role in shaping the sustainable scientific and practical landscape in the Emirates by increasing scientific research and innovation and focusing on advanced research projects to meet the challenges in the future labor market and contribute to the progress of society.”

The sessions of experts and specialists at the conference continued with a scientific session entitled “Early Education: Needs and Aspirations,” moderated by Professor Stephen Barnett, founder and co-director of the National Institute for Early Education, Professor of Education at Rutgers University, United States of America, Chairman of the Committee Awarding the Khalifa International Prize for Early Education, in which all From Sanaa Mohammed Suhail, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, Dr. Iram Siraj, Professor of Child Development and Education from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, member of the awarding committee for the Khalifa International Award for Early Education, and Maria Adelaide Lopez, Executive Director of the aeioTU Foundation in the Republic of Colombia. This session addressed a number of topics, such as early education and the most prominent experiences and practices adopted by developed countries in providing a stimulating environment for early education and caring for this category of childhood in accordance with scientific and applied practices that ensure the child’s growth and enhance the discovery and refinement of his talents at various stages of life.

 

Digital Education

 

The activities of the first day of the conference also concluded with a session entitled “Digital Education and Preparation for a Sustainable Future,” moderated by Dr. Mansour Al Awar, President of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, in which the following spoke: Nawal bint Ibrahim Al Khater, Undersecretary for Policies, Strategies, and Performance at the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Professor Neil Selwyn. Professor of the Faculty of Education and Culture, a specialist in digital technology in education at Monash University in Australia, and Dr. Aaron Benavot, Director of the Global Monitoring Report on Education for Sustainable Development, UNESCO, at the University of Albany in the United States of America. The experts speaking during this session touched on the role of digital technology in developing the learning environment and the importance of employing tools. Artificial intelligence in the learning environment is what we have witnessed during the last period and the positive effects associated with it towards changing the classroom environment in educational institutions compared to what it was previously.

 

Within the framework of the Khalifa Award for Education’s mission to establish a culture of excellence in the field, the Award allocated a pavilion through which the specialized educational and community awards in the country display their mission, objectives, and the fields proposed in each of them, allowing all participants and attendees to view and interact with them, with the participation of both the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical Sciences. Educational, Sharjah Award for Educational Excellence and Excellence, Zayed Sustainability Award, Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center and Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy for Women’s Sports.
